Ed and Marsha Gaventa opened Cedarvale on October 8, 2008. Ed is a 4th generation farmer. Ed is the enologist/viticulturist. He started growing grapes in 2004. Marsha is the tasting room and events manager. They have been married since 1989. Two sons, Chris and Andrew help in the vineyard, production room and tasting room. The farm was a fruit and vegetable farm. We did grow peaches, nectarines, strawberries, watermelons, sweet corn, cantaloupes and more. Now we grow 8 acres of grapes and several acres soybeans.
When Ed and Marsha decided to open their own winery, they put part of the farm in Farmland Preservation. With funding from the preservation they were able to invest in the building and equipment necessary for a winery. Within two years they were out of room, bursting at the seams. Recently a new production room was added which is much larger than what they started with.
All of the wines are made with their own grapes and locally grown fruit.
